چکیده

Let F2 be the finite field of cardinality 2 . For all large n, any subset A ⊂ F2 × F n 2 of cardinality |A| & 4 log log n log n , must contain three points {(x, y) , (x + d, y) , (x, y + d)} for x, y, d ∈ F2 and d 6= 0. Our argument is an elaboration of an argument of Shkredov [14], building upon the finite field analog of Ben Green [10]. The interest in our result is in the exponent on log n, which is larger than has been obtained previously.

On a Two–dimensional Analog of Szemerédi’s Theorem in Abelian Groups

Let G be a finite Abelian group and A ⊆ G×G be a set of cardinality at least |G|/(log log |G|)c, where c > 0 is an absolute constant. We prove that A contains a triple {(k, m), (k + d, m), (k, m+ d)}, where d 6= 0. This theorem is a two-dimensional generalization of Szemerédi’s theorem on arithmetic progressions.

The Effect of Argument Mapping Instruction on L2 Writing Achievement across Writing Tasks and Writing Components: A Case of Iranian EFL Learners

Argument maps as schematic representations of arguments and their logical and evidential relationships are effective diagrams for instruction in education as well as in L2 development. However, their use for teaching L2 writing in EFL contexts has not been adequately studied. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of argument mapping instruction on Iranian EFL learners’ writing achieveme...

An ‎E‎ffective Numerical Technique for Solving Second Order Linear Two-Point Boundary Value Problems with Deviating Argument

Based on reproducing kernel theory, an effective numerical technique is proposed for solving second order linear two-point boundary value problems with deviating argument. In this method, reproducing kernels with Chebyshev polynomial form are used (C-RKM). The convergence and an error estimation of the method are discussed. The efficiency and the accuracy of the method is demonstrated on some n...

The Effect of Dynamic Assessment of Toulmin Model through Teacher- and Collective-Scaffolding on Argument Structure and Argumentative Writing Achievement of Iranian EFL Learners

Considering the paramount importance of writing logical arguments for college students, this study investigated the effect of dynamic assessment (DA) of Toulmin model through teacher- and collective-scaffolding on argument structure and overall quality of argumentative essays of Iranian EFL university learners. In so doing, 45 male and female Iranian EFL learners taking part in the study were r...

Ergodic-theoretic Implementations of the Roth Density-increment Argument

We exhibit proofs of Furstenberg’s Multiple Recurrence Theorem and of a special case of Furstenberg and Katznelson’s multidimensional version of this theorem, using an analog of the density-increment argument of Roth and Gowers. The second of these results requires also an analog of some recent finitary work by Shkredov. Many proofs of these multiple recurrence theorems are already known. Howev...
